This guide will include all the online teaching tools that AUA is using.

How to start

In the online environment, it is important to be present for students, for that follow these steps that you can use in the Moodle.

STEP 1 

Start from the course orientation and put it in your Moodle course. You can use email or video (make sure that any media used has captions or transcripts, to meet accessibility standards), where you can explain your course's routine, expectations, and organization. You can also explain your syllabus and course schedule, and make sure that students are familiar with Moodle or where they can get support with Moodle related questions. 

This strategy will save your time on answering the same questions regarding course routine, expectations, schedule, and organization. 

STEP 2

Establish your presence in the Moodle via discussion Forums. Facilitate active discussions to foster student-to-student and instructor-to-student interaction. 

STEP 3

Create online activities that include student collaboration and group work. 

Universal Design for Learning

UDL is an educational framework that is centered on the development of individual learning differences. It has three guiding principles:

  1. Multiple means of representation to give learners various ways of acquiring information and knowledge.

  2. Multiple means of expression to provide learners alternatives for demonstrating what they know. 

  3. Multiple means of engagement to tap into learners' interests, challenge them appropriately, and motivate them to learn. 

ADDIE model

ADDIE  is an Instructional Design model for developing an online course. This model has 5 interconnected phases.                             

                                                                        

                                    

  1. Analysis - identify the targeted learners, define what learners should learn

  2. Design - create the structure of the course, define the learning outcomes and goals. 

  3. Development - content created from the design phase is collected and the course is being built with online tools.   

  4. Implementation - final delivery of the course to the targeted audience. 

  5. Evaluation - feedback and evaluation of the course.  

ADDIE Model: Instructional Design

Backward Design

The model of backward course design has 3 stages.

  1. Identify the learning goals, and what are the desired results. 

  2. The criteria to evaluate the learning goals  

  3. The content and activities to support those skills.

Bloom's Taxonomy

Bloom’s Taxonomy is a classification of the different objectives and skills that educators set for their students (learning objectives). Taxonomy defines the six levels of cognitive learning starting with the Lower order skills in the bottom and moving up through the Higher-order skills. 

  1. Teach the learners through the lower levels of remembering and understanding new information

  2. Being able to apply it, analyze it, evaluate its impact

  3. Create solutions for problems, by applying new knowledge.
